There are always those that only look at the surface of God’s Word. They never take the
time and effort to dig deep into the Word; and therefore, only come up with what it looks like on top or on the surface.
And there will always be a spirit of religion to assist in the interpretation of what it appears to
say instead of what it actually says; creating false doctrines and leading away
thousands of believers from discovering the truth so that they may be made free.
Jesus said in John 8:32 that the truth will make you free and we know that God is a God
that cannot lie. Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the
world began.”
So if God cannot lie, then that would also mean that He cannot-will not attach Himself to a lie that we may trying to present as truth. Even if we believe it to be true.
(Just because someone believes something, does not make it true)
2 Timothy 2:14-16
“Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they
strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing (straightly cutting) the word of truth.”
But shun profane and vain babblings (worthless, ineffective words): for they will
increase unto more ungodliness.”
So if we are to study to rightly divide the word, or to cut straight the word, then that
would mean that the word can be wrongly divided or made crooked (by not cutting straight).
That will increase to more ungodliness because the word they are hearing produces no
power for maturing in the things of God. (where no freedom can be found, increasing
into a dead religion that the world now mocks).
As Jesus had stated with the Pharisees…Mark 7:13 “Making the word of God of none
effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered:”
Jesus said in Luke Chapter 6:47-49 that we are to dig deep in the word to lay a foundation that cannot be moved. We are to build on that foundation with precious stones that cannot be burned.
A building that cannot be moved.
As Paul wrote in 1st Corinthians…
1 Corinthians 3:10
“According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have
laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how
he buildeth thereupon.”
1 Corinthians 3:11-13
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay,
stubble;”
“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day (Judgement) shall declare it,
because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it
is.”
So how do we make sure we are not just looking at the surface of the word?
How do we make sure we are finding the truth that will set us free, increasing our
maturity in Christ so that we may be all that He has called us to be?
We have to take the time and effort needed to dig deep into the Word of God.
Giving ourselves over to the Holy Spirit in prayer and meditation of the Word.
1st we will look at meditation:
Meditation means: to utter and give continual thought too. To mull over something.
So then you will need to speak out loud the word you read and go over it, over and over.
David wrote in Psalms
Psa 119:97-99
“O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are
ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my
meditation.”
Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for
then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
Psalms 1:1-3
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in
his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
1 Timothy 4:15-16
“Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear
to all.”
“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou
shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.”
2nd we have the Ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Then also, along with the Word, we have the Holy Spirit to assist us in our
understanding of the Word.
In John Chapters 14 and 15…
“We know that the Holy Spirit is here to teach us all things, to show us all things that
Jesus had said.
To lead and guide us into all truth, speaking to us and shewing us the glory of Jesus.”
Jesus taught the disciples and explained all things to them.
The Holy Spirit…Jesus stated that He is Just like Him.
Mark 4:34
“But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he
expounded all things to his disciples.”
We know that the Holy Spirit was sent as Another Comforter, that is one and the same
as Jesus.
So whatever we have seen Jesus do concerning the expounding of the word to the
disciples, we can know that the Holy Spirit will do the same for us as well.
Romans 8: 26-28
“And we know that when we are praying in the Holy Ghost (other tongues) that the Holy
Spirit is creating in us the perfect prayer for the will of God for our lives…in essence, He
is praying the Word of God for us, the things we ought to be praying.”
1 Corinthians 3: 9-14
The Holy Spirit reveals to us the deep things of God. So that we may know the things
freely given us by God.
3rd, we would want to recognize that in Mark Chapter 4, Jesus in His Doctrine stated that the Word works just like a seed with our heart being the ground. He also stated in John 7:38,39 that it is through the Holy Spirit that we have rivers of living water flowing out of our innermost being.
So, with this being so strongly stated in the word, it would stand to reason that we would
want to dig deep into the word by mediation. Sowing the seed of the Word in our hearts and applying prayer in the Holy Ghost. Watering the seed sown so that it takes root and produces fruit, that we may rightly divide the word of truth. Growing thereby and increasing the freedom promised.
After all, you can’t grow in God by partial truth or by avoiding the things you don’t
understand.
As you apply these things to your times with the Lord, Truth will come. And when truth comes it will usually expose any wrong thinking or false doctrines that one may have picked up from others.
You will be made free.
